DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 800 PM AST (0000 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Karl was
located near latitude 30.3 North, longitude 65.2 West. Karl is
moving toward the north near 13 mph (20 km/h) but is expected to
turn sharply toward the northeast during the next 24 hours. On the
forecast track, the center of Karl is forecast to move near or east
of Bermuda tonight or Saturday morning.

Reports from a NOAA Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that maximum
sustained winds have increased to near 65 mph (105 km/h) with higher
gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48
hours. Karl is forecast to reach hurricane intensity on Saturday and
then should become post-tropical on Sunday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km)
from the center.

The minimum central pressure estimated from the Hurricane Hunter
data is 990 mb (29.23 inches).


HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
WIND: Tropical storm conditions are beginning to spread across
Bermuda and will continue through early Saturday morning. Hurricane
conditions are also possible on Bermuda tonight.

RAINFALL: Karl is expected to produce total rain accumulations
of 3 to 5 inches over Bermuda through Saturday.

TORNADOES: Isolated tornadoes are possible on Bermuda overnight.

SURF: Swells generated by Karl are affecting Bermuda and are
expected to increase during the next couple of days. These
swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current
conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
